My dear S Barrett
Until I went to the Secretary’s office with Aikman to look at Mr Farquharson’s power I was under the impression that he had one from your father which would justify him in taking possession of your Uncle’s properties but I find he is only the substitute Attorney of your Uncle who had a form from your Father for Oxford & Cambridge– I am therefore more than surprised that he should have continued to do what he has done at C. Hill, as really he has no more authority to take possession of the properties than any other individual, & altho he may be justified, as the only person in |Island| representing your father, in entering on the properties for him, he should have done nothing more, until he had heard from him– I have stated to Anderson what Farquharson has done & what he wished to do at C. Hill, who appears to be just as loyal as his conduct & has promised me to state to F– what is thought of his proceedings–
Under the circumstances in which F.– is placed I have recommended Aikman not to issue the writ of emblements, as this could be a recognition of F– as the Atty of your father & might go a great way to set up his claims for commissions–
I shall start for M. Bay on Wednesday the 7th March & be at the Retreat on Thursday the 8th—perhaps you will be able to meet me there–
I shall not go to C. H. if F & all his family are there or that would be an approval of his conduct–
