My dear Barrett

I should have acknowld your letter before this; but I am so entirely engrossed by business that I am frequently compelled to postpone my duties in that respect. For your sake, I much regret the loss you have sustained; & I hope that before this arrives you will have looked on all Dispensations as having been governed most wisely– Your merely worldly interests will not suffer, insomuch as no one with ability if only accompanied by integrity can fail in Jamaica, & you are well qualified in both respects. I have been much gratified by your great industry, & congratulate you most sincerely on the terms on which you now stand with yr Father. We shall be happy to see you here again.

The inventory you promised I shall be glad to receive, as it may perhaps make some slight alteration in our instructions to Dr Spence & Kitchen, who are appointed the attornies of my Sister, Self, & Yr Brother for the Sale of Bloomsbury & the effects in it.

Thanks for your care of the place in the mean time, for which Annie is much indebted to you. She is in very poor health indeed; but is now at Tunbridge Wells in a quiet out of the way cottage for change of air & Scene, & with a mind so richly stored as hers will, I trust, gain strength. She would have written to you, but her Spirits permitted it not at present. My Mother is pretty sick & so are my Wife & Children[.] They unite with me in kindest regards to you & ever believe me, by dear Barrett,
