My dear Ba many thanks for your kind Letter tell dear Storm I should like to go home in a donkey cart very much, do you rememb’r simple susan and whim and contradiction [2] I have just read them I often take a dip in the sea and drink a little sometimes my best love to dear Papa and Mama and all my Brothers and sisters your affect sister

1. It is known from family letters that Arabella was sent to Worthing for her health in May 1819, and remained there until March 1820. Letter 91 shows that EBB was also at Worthing in June 1819, and no. 92 that she was back at Hope End in August. Arabella’s references suggest that this letter was written after EBB’s visit in June.

2. “Simple Susan” was one of the stories included in the 3rd edn. of The Parent’s Assistant (1800) by Maria Edgeworth (1768–1849). Whim and Contradiction: A Tale was published anonymously in 1815.
