My dear Mrs. Tennyson,
Thank you very much: I can’t go to you however, having to dine with Lord Dufferin—and why? Because I fancied your Husband would be there, from a word he said on Saturday. I was engaged elsewhere—but finding on Monday that I might still accept the invitation,—my other dinner being put off,—I did so—and you see with what result! Never mind, I shall look in on you both,—take my chance again and again. I mean to bring Robert also who wants much to see your Lionel.
I am glad your Breakfast [1] went merrily, for I heard, just after leaving you, that a Funeral would be in the neighbourhood and sadden it.
