Monday Oct 17.

Arabel says that Mrs. Boyd is sure not to ask me to do what I want to do: If she does not, I must call up my philosophy from the shades. It is five minutes to eleven, & she has not arrived. Perhaps there may be no room for me in the carriage. Perhaps Miss Bordman may not come, & then there will be room. I wish—I scarcely know what, exactly. I think, I almost certainly think that I shd. write a little note to poor Miss Gibbons today. And yet if I do, Bummy will be so angry!— And I dont like to write incog.!— I will write the note, & see how it looks!--

Wrote the note. It looks well enough to send, but I wont send it.[1]

Mrs. Boyd did not come at all. Resolved—that I will go to Ruby Cottage tomorrow.

1. She must have changed her mind, because the entry of 20 October speaks of a reply.
