Monday. June 13th.

The gnats kept Arabel & me & half the house besides up half the night: witness my swelled finger—witness this eccentric writing.[1] I will gnat sleep in that room again, until the weather changes. I will go into the Bamboo room. No letters on Monday, .. & if it had been Tuesday, I should have expected none. Mr. Boyd cant write, & nobody else will. Mr. Boyd cant write? I wish he would try to write with a pencil. Shall I ask him? How I should like to receive from him an undictated letter!-- Henrietta on the heath. Bummy Arabel & I went out to walk, & sate for a long time on the rock, where we were joined by Henrietta. They have determined on not going to Miss Steers’s.

1. More erratic at this point than E.B.B.’s usual style.
