[London—Wednesday, 2 May 1860]

Wednesday 2d Went to the 2 Exhibitions of Water-colors where we found incomparable pictures each in their own style by Birket Foster, Prout, Rowbotham, Vacher, John Chase, Carl Werner and many others—the Queen had just left the New Exhibition when we entered. Mr Trollope lunched with us. Charles Reade made a long visit talking acutely and interestingly about his specialties. Jamie dined with the Smith and Elder Cornhill company at Mr George Smith’s.
