[Boston—Monday, 20 July 1868]

Beautiful shower. East wind & rain Monday evening. Read Life of Madme de Lafayette yesterday—hope J. will publish. Charles Sumner sent it to him—who will translate I do not know. We feel thoroughly refreshed by our spring tour and no need to go away again, yet in a week we intend to see Manchester.

July 20. Letter from dear C.D.
