[Boston—Sunday, 7 November 1869]

Sunday. Nover 7th Cold autumn weather glorious, home like, inspiring. Walked to Roxbury to church.

George Peabody died this week and telegraphic news of the same came by Ocean cable at ½ past 1 o’clk at night. The next morning the newspapers had a long account of him. When “J.” asked how they accomplished it, he was told at the Journal office that the notice was written last September and that their pigeon holes were full of obituary notices. In slack seasons they put their hands upon writing obituary notices of aged persons.
