[Boston—Saturday, 27 April 1872]

Saturday. Could not go to Framingham & Southboro’ to see Mabel Burnett, not being well enough. Went to Lincoln St. however in the course of the day and found poor Miss Philbrook much overworked and doing as well as she can I really believe under pretty adverse circumstances. In the evening went to hear Wagner’s Lohengrin, exquisite music as it is, give[n] after an amateur fashion. It was very interesting and beautiful and at least gives us an idea of the glory of the opera. Dr. Langmaid’s singing was very fine.
