[Boston—Friday, 30 May 1873]

Friday. Decoration day—another awful fire has destroyed the Globe Theatre, Chickering’s Workroom and much valuable property—while the smoke was still rolling up, the music and the solemn floral procession in honor of our dear young dead heroes went past the house. It was a day full of sad and tender feelings. Received the hair and picture of dear Dickens from Georgina. Went to thank Miss Norton.

Governor and Mrs Kent of Maine came to dine.
