[Boston—Monday, 8 June 1874]

Monday 8th Was warm and perfect in its beauty. Miss Knowlton came to tea. The sunset was exquisite; we had seen in the morning two marvellous pictures by La farge and a beauty of a garden by Hunt. We had much to talk of artistically—also she came to consult us with regard to a newspaper which she & her sisters inherit and scarcely know what to do with. They edit it ably as far as they go but they can give it no political power or tone.
