[Manchester—Thursday, 23 September 1875]

Thursday. Alas! one week from today is our last. Beautiful weather though cold. Mrs Gardner of Beverly called & brought a server.

With so much business I fear I cannot write any more this year—beside the winds seem to freeze the very blood as it flows. Yet the Sun is gracious and glorious.

Gardening yesterday all the morning with Watson, putting down plants sent by Laura.
