[Boston—Tuesday, 24 October 1876]

Tuesday. Dear Jamie left for Springfield. Lovely day. Sat an hour with Mrs Caswell making plans for workrooms. Miss Phelps came in the afternoon. Mrs Lodge called and sent Miss P. a bottle of orange flower water to make her sleep!! The very odor made Lily Phelps faint but she clung to her gift with pleasure, notwithstanding.

Call late in the evening from a Miss Leggett of New York who wishes to be a publisher!!! Young, handsome, and without any peculiar advantages to make her a business woman so far as I could judge by a passing glance.
